Galerie des Glaces

The Hall of Mirrors—or *Grande Galerie*—is a magnificent Baroque-style gallery located within the Palace of Versailles, of which it is one of the most iconic rooms. Designed and built between 1678 and 1684 by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart, it was intended to showcase the power of the absolute monarch Louis XIV and to dazzle visitors through its ornamentation, its rich iconography created by Charles Le Brun, and its unprecedented dimensions. Measuring 73 meters in length and 11 meters in width, the gallery is lined with 357 mirrors—arranged as 21 mirrors across each of the 17 arches facing 17 windows. Situated on the first floor of the palace's central section, it faces the Gardens of Versailles to the west, providing a culminating point for the vista.
